Independence Day has always been a special holiday for me. As a child the 4th of July was about family and fireworks but after years in the United States Navy serving over seas my appreciation for this day has matured. It’s true that one or two other holidays can match her grandeur but none can unite our country, communities and families in a single celebration. We gather on beaches, in parks and on the streets in front of our homes to celebrate the birth of a nation founded on equality and freedom.
We celebrate a nation where for the first time, it was decided that man is born with certain God-given rights; that government is only a convenience created and managed by the people, with no powers of its own except those voluntarily granted to it by the people.
We celebrate our Independence… and I still love fireworks!
